I was a fan of the band Bauhaus back in the day, and even saw their ‘final‘ concert at the Lyceum (before they came back!).

I learned from Prof. Jonas Otterbeck (at the BRAIS 2025 Conference) that Bauhaus‘ lead singer, Peter Murphy, went on to develop an interest in Sufism. So, I was fascinated to read Prof. Otterbeck’s article:

Details: Jonas Otterbeck, For the Love of the Beloved: Peter Murphy’s Creative Use of Sufi tropes. (2023). AURA – Tidsskrift for Akademiske Studier Av nyreligiøsitet , 13, 21-46. https://doi.org/10.31265/aura.721

And – essentially – there is an accompanying playlist. While I had heard some of Murphy’s recent work (including his last album), there are many tracks here that had escaped my attention. And Prof Otterbeck’s article helps to point out the Sufi allusions in some of the lyrics.
