Lee Anderson’s comments about ‘Islamism’ and Sadiq Khan on GBNews have generated substantial social media responses, as have Suella Braverman’s Telegraph comments. There’s more on my X, but here’s a selection:
Thank you Robert for your clear sightedness on this and demanding consistency in our response to all forms of racism 🙏🏽 https://t.co/wSy0OnflWQ

I'm not falling for this twice. Guys this is actually a comedian who is using a green screen to make it look like he's being interviewed by Nick Ferrari. https://t.co/ucL1ztE3x9

Lee Anderson's comments were undeniably Islamophobic, and Suella Braverman's were worse.

The fact that so many Conservative MPs either don't see it as racist, or don't think such Islamophobia should be punished, shows how deep the rot in the Party goes. https://t.co/KIcH7svUzq
The Muslim Council of Britain (MCB) said it addressed a letter to Conservative chair, Richard Holden, on Sunday after what it alleged was “a week of inflammatory statements and Islamophobia from senior figures in the party”.https://t.co/U1krQo5xqD pic.twitter.com/0b1TggpNoj

This denialism is a typical feature of an institutional problem with Islamophobia. https://t.co/U5ZWjwOcph

The APPG cross party agreed definition of Islamaphobia makes its expressly clear that the definition DOES NOT stop the criticism of religion.
— Sayeeda Warsi (@SayeedaWarsi) February 25, 2024
The definition is a non legally binding working definition that protects people – Muslims and perceived Muslims.
Like the IHRA definition… https://t.co/ohtGdO2u9r

After Lee Anderson's comments against Sadiq Khan, Tory Peer Baroness @SayeedaWarsi tells @carolvorders it seems her 'colleagues want to toxify and destroy the Party' with their 'deep-rooted hypocrisy'. pic.twitter.com/lWHg05O65r

Guest on @GBNEWS says that Sadiq Khan is "not British."

● Station should issue an immediate apology.
● @Ofcom should act
● This should NEVER be acceptable https://t.co/gROomVNMDZ
Disturbing mealy mouthed evasive responses by Oliver this morning.
— Sayeeda Warsi (@SayeedaWarsi) February 25, 2024
A clear display that anti Muslim racism is tolerated within @Conservatives
that Muslims are not just fair game but convenient electoral campaign fodder.
When we can’t even call out the obvious, when it’s so… pic.twitter.com/aXPGUU13by
It is astonishing that the PM of this country doesn't even acknowledge Islamophobia or Lee Anderson's suspension following his Islamophobic remarks
— Miqdaad Versi (@miqdaad) February 25, 2024
This passed his whole team & nobody noticed – it shows how the problem of Islamophobia in his Party is far deeper than they realise https://t.co/I4P5sXRuAw
“Lee Anderson is the tip of the iceberg. At candidate, parliamentary & donor level.Rishi Sunak knows it’s an issue within our party. Either he accepts this racism is unacceptable & deals with it or says that he doesn't have any leadership on it” @SayeedaWarsi tells @cathynewman pic.twitter.com/a8UaTlSj0y

Is this the headline? I love the BBC, I owe my career to them. But this is not accurate. It was Islamophobia. That’s the facts . https://t.co/EGkN6BAEex
— Adil Ray OBE (@adilray) February 24, 2024
Absolutely right Anna.
— Sayeeda Warsi (@SayeedaWarsi) February 24, 2024
Anderson has a long and well documented history of racism and we @Conservatives accepted him , promoted him and protected him until today.
Anderson is the tip of the iceberg – if we are to be a decent , democracy loving , rule of law supporting ,… https://t.co/7xOGq8fUYg
NEW: Former Deputy Chair Lee Anderson loses Conservative whip after his comments about Sadiq Khan and Islamists.
— Lewis Goodall (@lewis_goodall) February 24, 2024
Spokesperson: “Following his refusal to apologise for comments made yesterday, the Chief Whip has suspended the whip from Lee Anderson MP.”
Remember: Suella Braverman's comments were broader than Anderson's
— Miqdaad Versi (@miqdaad) February 24, 2024
So if you think Anderson should lose the whip for saying Islamists are in control of London, what about Braverman who says Islamists are in charge of Britain?
Even Anderson said she went too far for him! https://t.co/5UU5Q9qKHY pic.twitter.com/P405I5ywpK
Sadiq Khan has more integrity, dignity & intellect in his pinky than a thousand Lee Andersons.
— Humza Yousaf (@HumzaYousaf) February 24, 2024
Lee Anderson's comments are an example of how acceptable and pervasive Islamaphobia has become in our society. We all have a responsibility to root it out.
Solidarity with @SadiqKhan https://t.co/DbO6hk9VcF
