Last week, I participated in a fruitful two-day workshop on online Islam organised by Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Forschungszentrum für Islam und Recht in Europa – FAU EZIRE in Erlangen. The workshop was entitled “Islam Online – Offline – and Beyond. Digital Media, Islamic Knowledge and Authority in the West.
There were interesting presentations on different aspects and approaches to studying online Islam. I also discussed some perspectives on my work and research projects (including Digital British Islam and Chanse DigitIslam). It was significant that this event was entirely devoted to online Islam, which is still quite unusual, but demonstrates how the field continues to develop.
