This is the fourth month since the current Israel-Hamas conflict commenced. It doesn’t get any better. I have been keeping copies of selected online content (see the entry page for other months).
Many of these posts feature on my X page (@garybunt), and are usually posted there first, along with related materials (there’s often a time lag between posting on X and posting here!). The intention here is to keep a record of these posts (X posts disappear from time to time). This relates to my interest in digital archiving. I’m planning to write about these sources in due course.
There are thousands of potential posts, so what follows is only a snapshot of activities. Warning: there are images of violence and injuries in some posts.
Sequencing is date-related. The pages (from various months) link back to the earliest days of this crisis. Scrolling and loading the page can take some time (depending on net access/bandwidth).
As with all other posts here and elsewhere, reposting and retweeting is for recording, information and research purposes – and does not necessarily imply endorsement.
Niels de Hoog, Antonio Voce, Elena Morresi, Manisha Ganguly and Ashley Kirk, The Guardian, How war destroyed Gaza’s neighbourhoods – visual investigation, 30 Jan 2024. Outstanding work here: “Satellite imagery and open-source evidence lay bare the destruction to civilian infrastructure by Israel in its war on Hamas.”

Matt Kennard, Declassified, Britain has flown 50 spy missions over Gaza in Support of Israel, 18 Jan 2025 “The UK military refuses to tell Declassified what intelligence it is sharing with Israel as we reveal the extraordinary number of surveillance flights Britain is undertaking over Gaza from its base on Cyprus.”
On 11 January 2024, social media was dominated by (historical) coverage of the ICJ in the Hague. ‘Highlights‘ follow:
Also see Xander Elliards, The National, Study shows BBC ‘bias’ in reporting on Palestinian and Israeli deaths, 9 Jan 2024 “The study, conducted by data scientists Dana Najjar and Jan Lietava, also found words like mother, grandmother, daughter, granddaughter, father, grandfather, son, and grandson were much more likely to be linked to Israeli people over Palestinian.”
The raw data are from Dana Najjar and Jan Lietava’s study on GitHub, leit-git, bbc-bias.
Check out the work of Mona Chalabi on this, specifically: “Mentions of Israeli and Palestinian Deaths in BBC News Coverage” on the 29th of December, 2023., and “Biases in the Language of BBC News Coverage” on the 30th of December, 2023.
