This follows my ‘Southport Tragedy‘ post, which required an extended section to cover subsequent developments (and to allow the page to load faster). The pages should be read in conjunction with one another. The focus is on the snapshotting digital aspects of the rioting, including social media posts and responses. Here’s what I wrote as a preface to the Southport post:

Opportunist ‘dog whistle ‘ responses to the Southport tragedy include a strong anti-Muslim theme. The attention should be on the victims of the attack in Southport and their families/community. Instead, the protesters shamelessly hijacked the narrative fuelled by irresponsible social media disinformation. These issues are highlighted in the social media posts below, alongside wider reactions from politicians, media sources, influencers and observers.

The language is emotive and challenging at times. These and related posts are on X @garybunt. I’ve sought to preserve a timeline. I am also archiving the posts for later analysis. Content warning: contains profanities, opinions, responses, etc.

As with all other posts here and elsewhere, reposting and retweeting are for recording, information, and research purposes and do not necessarily imply endorsement. For time reasons, I don’t have time to comment on each post individually here.

See below for responses to Jenrick’s inflammatory comments; the absence of a response from Sky News‘ presenter is also worthy of attention.
