I gave a presentation yesterday at the Religions Digitals: Transformacions Technologiques i Espirituals Conference organised by the Oficina d’Afers Religiosos i Investigacions en Sociologia de la Religio in Barcelona, in conjunction with Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona. I talked about my work on AI and Islam (including Islamic Algorithms), and retrospectively considered the development of Cyber Islamic Environments.
Fouad Gehad Marei presented his work in my session (chaired by Maria del Mar Griera), including a new volume on eFaith. Fouad and I were also interviewed separately on our work, and the conversation will be published in Catalan, Spanish and English in due course (details to follow)
There were also opportunities to discuss the work of Chanse DigitIslam. In another session, Rosa Martinez Cuadros gave an excellent presentation on some of the findings from the Spain team. There was also a very interesting presentation from Antonia de Diego on his work focusing on digital Islam in western African contexts (I want to read more on that!).
This event has been a great opportunity to discover more about the developing research being undertaken on multiple aspects of digital Islam.
